Tabbed window managers are greatly useful, but those with an implementation often fall short in other regards. Here's a sample image from i3 to show what its addition may add.

A good point of comparison for a floating window manager with tabs would be Fluxbox or PekWM. I like Fluxbox's window tabbing workflow.

  • Ctrl+Click and drag a window on to second one to create a tabbed window with the position/size of the second window, or to add a window to a tabbed window.
  • Mod4+tab cycles between tabs in a window.
